What is the Meowdoku solver?

The Meowdoku solver is a free online tool that finishes any Meowdoku board for you. Meowdoku is a cat logic puzzle in the Star Battle / LinkedIn Queens family: the grid is split into colored regions, and you place one cat in every row, every column, and every color region without letting any two cats touch. When a level has you stuck, the Meowdoku solver reads the board from a screenshot and shows exactly where each cat belongs.

Unlike tools that ship your image off to a server, this Meowdoku solver runs entirely in your browser. You upload a screenshot, the page detects the grid and its colors on your own device, and the answer appears in a second or two. How the solver works

1. Screenshot your Meowdoku board — the whole phone screen is fine.
2. Upload it. The solver locates the board, reads its grid size, and detects each colored region automatically.

How the board detection works

Most screenshots are mostly interface — a header, the rule chips, a bright banner — with the board somewhere in the middle. The Meowdoku solver finds the board by scanning the image for the one square block of colored cells and ignoring the wide banners and toolbars around it. Then it measures the spacing of the grid lines to work out whether the board is 5×5, 8×8, 9×9, or anything from 4×4 to 12×12.

For each cell it samples a ring of pixels just inside the edges, so it reads the true region color even when a cat icon or an ✕ mark is sitting in the middle of the square. Then it groups those colors into the exact number of regions the board needs. Because the solver keeps the colors it read from your screenshot, the board on the page looks just like the one in your game, which makes it easy to confirm every region was detected correctly before you solve.

A quick example

Say you upload a 9×9 level. The Meowdoku solver locates the board, reads it as nine colored regions, and paints them onto the grid. You glance over it, confirm the colors match your screenshot, and press Solve. In an instant the tool places nine cats — one per row, one per column, one per color — with no two cats touching, and marks each one on the board.

If a single cell came out the wrong color (glare or a cat icon can fool the reader on rare boards), tap the correct color, paint over that cell, and solve again. The Meowdoku solver also checks whether the board has a single answer: if it reports more than one solution, that is a strong hint a region was misread, so you can fix it before trusting the result.

The rules it solves for

Solve Meowdoku faster yourself

• Start with the smallest regions. A one-cell color region is a free cat — place it first, then rule out its row, column, and neighbors.
• Watch rows and columns that cross a whole region. If a color spans only one row or column, that line’s cat must sit in that color.
• Lean on the no-touch rule. Every placed cat rules out all eight cells around it, which often forces the very next one.
• Cross out as you go. Marking impossible cells with an ✕ keeps the board readable and stops you re-checking the same squares.

Solving tips

If the solution looks wrong

• A cell is the wrong color. Tap the right color swatch and paint over it, then solve again.
• It reports more than one solution. A real puzzle has one answer, so a region was likely misread — fix it and re-solve.
• The grid size is off. Nudge the grid stepper; the board re-reads at the new size.
